Obviously, I am wrecked over this verdict. I would like to have been a fly on the wall in the jury room, listening to them sift through three weeks worth of medical testimony in less than six hours. It would seem to me they didn’t sift at all.
So, Charlene, it looks as though you may have been right after all. He with the most talking heads wins.

Charlene it is actually a good strategy–though I’m sure they would have liked to afford one or two more–to NOT put on so many experts, especially when (as ny121asil said) the prosecution threw SO MUCH medical “evidence” at the jury that Ashley managed to knock down. After a trial this long, the jury is getting tired and frustrated with being there. If Ashley has done his job, they are also beginning to get angry that the prosecution has wasted their time. Everyone wants to put away a baby killer…but unless the evidence is very clear and convincing, they will begin to think that the police and prosecutors have done a crappy job, that both their time AND tax dollars have been wasted.
In our own case, the defense put up 3 experts–one a SUPER rockstar pathologist–against Carole Jenny and her minions, and it turned out the jury only seemed to give credit to the testimony of ONE of those experts (who seemed to be the only physician capable of reading an x-ray) and the physician “fact witnesses” of the prosecution, who, as in Li’s case, did no real service to the prosecution case. The jury didn’t care about opinions. They only cared about facts.
If the jury found the fact witnesses to be neutral in this case, and conflict between expert opinions, they will acquit. Of course you can never predict how a jury will react, but I am hoping for the best here.
